Paediatric Emergency Care at EQuestrian Events (PECEQE)

This one day course is aimed at health care professionals who already have some knowledge of pre-hospital medical equestrian event care but wish to expand their abilities to provide medical cover at equestrian events where riders may be under 12 years of age.

Much of the more general pre-hospital trauma teaching (such as is contained in ECEQE) is not repeated in PECEQE to allow more in-depth consideration of special paediatric issues, so some prior knowledge is important.

It is run in conjunction with the Medical Equestrian Association and aims to improve the initial assessment and management of injured riders. The course will consist of a minimum of lectures, the emphasis being on acquisition of practical skills in the field!

• Initial assessment of the injured rider
• Infant and child basic & advanced life support according to the latest Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.
• Airway management relating to children
• Thoracic trauma
• Circulation & shock relating to children
• Head injury
• Spinal immobilisation
• Fracture management

Cost

The course cost is £179 (£185 online via PayPal), and this includes all course materials in electronic format, lunch, refreshments throughout the day and a certificate of attendance.

CPD Accreditation

We have applied for CPD points for the PECEQE course from the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Previous courses were awarded 5 points.

Next course date

• The course scheduled for 6th June 2010 in Lambourn, Berks has been cancelled due to the number of unfilled slots. There has been some interest in a PECEQE run in the North of England, pleas email Ted if you might be interested.
